Lalla Rookh Grotto No. 3

A Grotto is the term used to identify the meeting place of local members of the Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm (MOVPER). What is the MOVPER? It’s one of the “playgrounds” of Masonry which prides itself on having fun. To join the Grotto, you must be a Master Mason in good standing.

About the Grotto

The Grotto was founded in 1889 in Hamilton, NY by members of the local Masonic Lodge and today there are Grottos across the USA and Canada. These Grottoes have dinners, picnics, and other family oriented functions for all to enjoy. But as all good Masons, just having fun was not enough. It was felt that there was a need to help the less fortunate so, in June 1949, our Humanitarian Foundation was born. Lalla Rookh Grotto is the oldest active Grotto in the world!

Why join?

Aside from the important charity work explained above, the Grotto is a social organization for Master Masons that encourages a renewed interest in the Blue Lodge. While it makes no claim to be a part of symbolic Craft Masonry, we ever bear in mind that our membership is composed entirely of Master Masons. The Grotto teaches a lesson which lingers with the initiate, instilling him with a spirit of optimism, a kindly feeling for his brother man, and an impression of good fellowship which is something devoutly to be desired.
